Beach combing

Beachcombing

This is a conceptual music  video and  has inspired me to have an opposite sex to singing the song I have chosen. I say this because in the music video of Carly Rae Jepsen Tom Hanks is seen singing her song. Tom Hanks is a famous actor and having a voice over of her song while he is lip singing engages with the audience as it brings humor. The narrative  also seems to includes him doing what he does in his everyday life. I have thought of doing something like this for my music video because there is no repetition in the visuals shown and doing this for my music video would keep the audience entertained as they haven't seen something like what i've created before. If I create a music video where not only my artist appears but also the audience would show the audience that they are a big part of the career of my artist.

When talking about costume I think that Taylor Swift's outfits in her music video 'you belong with me' are suitable for my music video. I say this because it's a casual and smart look, at the same time it shows a contrast in what she wears from her two different roles she plays in the music video.  For example the purple and black squared body warmer and the stripy shirt has relations to 'nerd girls' and to enhance her look of a 'nerd she has two pony tails and big glasses to complete her look. Opposite to this we have the cool girl which dresses which the mini skirt and the fancy car. I like that in this music video this is done because it allows her to have a variety of audiences. I think this is suitable for my music video only because I think that the audience can relate to the clothes they wear not only because it portrays what high class people wear but also because people that don't have much disposable income can relate as well. It would make the audience feel part of the artist's world as they can wear similar clothes to her specially to those audiences that would like to sing similar music.
Hilary Duff apart from being an actress she is also known for her pop genre vocals. The audience as well as myself can identify it's a pop genre because of the classical instruments being played in the background which include the guitar and piano.  In addition to this, the lyrics can also be identified as pop genre because of the subject being love. My artists is also a pop genre artists. I think that  Hilary Duff could be a competition to my artists and because of this they would also have similar target audiences, These target customers for my artist would be young girls aged 13 and over from a white background as well as guys who are interested in woman  being the same age.

I would like to have fast paced editing like in Ed Sheerans 'Sing' music video and the editing all depends on how fast the tempo and the beat of the song goes. In my opinion this is a way to keep the audience entertained and engaged with the music video as they would constantly see the background images changing. I think this is a good way for my audiences to listen to my artists song and get to know my artist through the images shown in the music video. Whether the music video I would create is a narrative or an interpretative, the images portrayed would relate to the lyrics and get the audience thinking of the plot or the reason of the video the music video is the way it is and how it can be related to the lyrics of the song.

There are also a variety of shots used in the music video of 'all eyes on you' by Meek Mill ft Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown such as the following which i thought I could use in my music video due to the significance it  has upon the lyrics of the song:

Close ups:
Close Ups to show my artists emotions as shown by Meek and Nick, so if a person can't hear the song then they would be able to identify what the song is about as the visuals match the single due to the fact its going to be a narrative.
Medium close ups:

I would also like to include medium close ups to show the actions of my artists while being in a certain scene. This would be done to enhance the importance of their actions as they can mean a lot due to the fact that the actions also reflect on the music itself.

and long/ establishing shots:
Lastly I would also use establishing shots to highlight where the music is going to be taking place. As you can see on the left there is a picture of the inside of the house that that the whole music video takes place in. However, i think that doing this in my music video would all relate to the lyrics and the genre of the music video and there for the locations should be highlighted due to their importance.

Flat Plans

For our final product apart from a Music Video we also have to create ancillary products for our re branded artist Lij Guilmour. As a group we analysed the song lyrics and the Song to see what we could relate and think about when we listen to it. After doing this we gathered our ideas and decided on one of our best ideas and design a draft of a magazine cover and Digi pack.

You will be able to see our drafts below:

 Magazine Adverts:

Digi - Packs:

We decided to pick my Digi pack as the best draft and potential finalised idea. Likewise Sams Magazine advert as we felt that they would work well together and have synergy between them so that the audience can identify the artists Digi pack from the magazine advert. Making it easier for our audience to find and buy our products.

Production log 4

Continuing my research this week we was asked to look at different magazine covers on music videos and digipacks. Doing research on this allowed me to gain inspiration and new ideas on what to do for my digi pack and magazine cover. Within the blogs i done based upon the digi packs and the magazine covers i learnt that colours can have different meanings depending on what they are used to display. Such as the colour red being romantic to draw in the attention of guys. Likewise the images themselves the pose and structure the artist is making and what they are representing through the images and what they expect their audience to understand from it.

Digi-Pack Analysis

Digipack 1:

The Beyonce digipack includes various images of her posing in the background. Her femininity is used to attract both her female and male target customers. I say this because her female customers would want to be as sexy as her or she might be a role model for them. I think that Beyonce is used to attract her male customers through her body and her beauty. This refers to Laura Mulvey's 'Male Gaze Theory' which includes woman being used as sexual objects in order to attract male audiences. Beyonce's B-Day album includes a blurb in which gives customers an insight to the background of the artist by giving information on the awards she has won, the job roles she has taken as an artist such as actress and model as well as giving some personal details. As her target audience starts from a young age range she made sure to include a pack shot of her other albums.  We all know that Beyonce is a well-known star not only in the UK but all over the world and having designed her disc as a gramophone disc portrays her success as a singer. Allowing her fans to have a disc in form of a gramophone one allows them to feel part of her success, and could possibly be targeting her elderly fans. As the discs were used in old generations, which allows the audience to feel like it's a traditional album.

 Digipack 2:

The Katy Perry digipack has a theme throughout her album and songs being a candy theme.Taking the example of her song California girls number 1 music video which includes Katy Perry in a land of candy, reflects on her album digipack as her fans can identify that she is the singer of the song. To enhance this the songs of her album including California girls is added on one of the pages and this would also allow the customers to identify who the singer is. The disc is also designed to fit the candy theme, as they have a doughnut and sweet design on them. Having followed this theme target her young targets and would allow her older customers to connect with their childhood as it would remind them of their teenage life. Again the name of the album is also suitable as it's called teenage dream so it would not only remind her middle aged customers about their teenage lives but also the dreams they had as a teenager. This would increase demand because they would allow their kids to purchase her album but they would also want to know what the album contains. The candyfloss look alike writing is also continuous as it is part of the theme and helps builds on to the customers recognition towards the album and the artist. The digipack also contains _____ showing her gratitude to everyone who helped put the album together such as the executive producers. Lately, it also contain extra details of where she can be found to build up on her customers knowledge of her.

Digipack 3:

The recovery album of Eminem has strong connotation to his past and from simply the name of the album it shows that Eminem is just now recovering from  the rough past he has gone throught. The main image of the album digipack shows Eminem walking on the middle of an empty road which could reflect on the fact that despite the suffering he has had, from getting to where he is there is still a long way for him to fully recover from his past. The fact that rap is usually related to the streets is also highly significant in the main image as he did start rapping on the streets. Emphasising the natural lighting on the cover also portrays that the recovery album would also be natural in terms of him writing the songs himself and that the audience would get an insight on his life through this album. The disc itself has a white cross which is usually related to hospitality which shows this album is going to go in depth of the past he had suffered. The juxtaposed inside cover image contains himself in an urban environment with fancy furniture which is shown to portray his success in the music industry. Adding on to this the fact he has a transparent glass over where he is standing shows that he has nothing to hide and that the album would
solely focus on himself and his feelings.

Magazine Analysis

Advert 1

The main image/ focal point of the advertisement for Taylor Swifts album 'RED' has a black and white background colour with a birds cage handind at the back of her. The balck and white colour effect shows that the album could be vintage as the hat she is wearing has connotations to a image that woman would have worn in the 19s rather than now. In my opinion having the cage in the background is an important part of the advertisement as birds have relation to natural, freedom and purity. Her target audience are girls aged from 7years older and in order for them to get tickets to her concert they would need approval of their parents do it's not only targeting young girls but also middle aged parents. Having put object that relate to purity and natural would allow parents to think Taylor Swift would be a good role model for their young girls. The only colour seen in this advert is the colour red used for the title 'RED' which is mostly related to feminism and sexuality, specifically written in red in the her single 'we never ever getting back together' this could have been done to highlight that it's her no1 single but also because it's a love song and red is the colour that love is known for. This advert also contains a pack shot, I personally think this was specifically done for the target audience as they are young girls and when they go into a shop they need to know how the album is called and how it looks like so they can recognise it quicker and be able to buy it. Similarly to the same way that the release date is put on the album so the audience can know when they can purchase the product. Having synergy with Target benefits both Taylor and Target as selling it exclusively there would increase and boots sales of her album as target is a well-known store.

Advert 2:

Firstly, from the focal point we know that this advertisement is targeting 11 to 29 year old girls and woman. I say this as from the image of him being naked portrays a good example of the female gaze as he has a seductive look in his eyes and his exotic body which draws female audience to looking at the advert. The red written title on the name of the album, the nails on the female hands and the lipstick scribe behind "new album available now" also would attract the female audience as they can relate to the femininity used in the advert. The title 'Talk Dirty' is unique to Jason Derulos album as I haven't seen this any where else before which makes me want to listen to it even more as i can already relate to the title as it looks to be drawn in red lipstick. The colour red is seen as a sexual colour again having connotations to women as it symbolises love similarly to the lipstick scribbles. As stars targeted their audiences from a low age range a pack-shot alongside a body copy which is there to inform customers about Jasons top songs. The pack-shot is inserted in the advert to allow them to find the album in store or online easier. Having inserted the name of his top album hits known as body copy would allow the customers to identify who he is quicker and convince them to buy the album because the songs they know are good showing that the rest of the album would be as good as them. Having his name being in a dark almost silver colour reflects him as he is a dark colour but can also be pure and beautiful like a diamond in terms of attitude and personality. The price is also included on the foot of the page as well as the date it is released as an action line to show the audience that the album is  cheap so it can be afforded by everyone and is inserted in the advert as well to allow customers to buy it for the simple fact that it's cheap and to show other important information such as released dates.

Advert 3:

Rita Ora is known for being one of the most sexy and most beautiful artists in the R&B music genre. Her blond hair which also looks gold and her perfect curls reminds me of one of the sexiest woman's ever known being Marilyn Monroe. Looking sexy in her cover album magazine advert would attract the attention of all the male audiences, of all ages because of the simple fact she is attractive. Thanks to Laura Malvys 'Male Gaze Theory' I can say that I truly believe her theory is correct and that it apples in this situation of Rita Ora. The strong red lipstick she is wearing suggests love and danger. This is good as her male audiences can fall in love with her as well as knowing she is a dangerous woman that doesn't play games and is all business. This shows she is a good role model for woman aged 25 and over as it gives them advise on how to look more seductive. She has ensured to add that she has a special guest which allows audiences to look forward to the mysterious person who she is on tour with as well and due to the fact she has young audiences, they are sure to be more excited about a special guest. Rita Oras advertisement also has an action line where it allows her audiences to know where and when she is performing making them aware of when she would be close to them. She also has an action line at the bottom of the advert allowing the audiences to know where the product can be found. I don;t believe to have found any reviews on any of the adverts above however, a lot of starting up artist put reviews so it encourages the target audience to buy the album if they see 4-5 stars on it. I will be using this in my own magazine cover.

Production Log 3

After doing a large amount of research on MP3 Unsigned, unsigned and Youtube looking for an artist which I could rebrand was the trickiest thing as I wanted a song with a narrative which could also be performed. I also had to think about the kind of audience I wanted to target through the music video I would pick which reflected on the song genre. I knew for sure I didn't want a rock or punk music however I did want a calm, happy and danceable song to use as my final product.

Having searched and searched I came across a young American girl called Amanda Kaletsky who's passionate about writinging her songs and using different instruments to show her interests in the song was plays. The song 'everything lies' had been featured in the MTV's series 3 The Hills which targets people around the age of 16 to 27. It is also an uplifting song of a pop genre which is what I was looking for and decided to use it for my chosen music video.

After deciding on the artist we had to analyse their lyrics and make a power point presentation which we had to them present to the class and decide as groups what song we canted to pick.

Weekly Production Log 2

The Richard Dyers stars as a theory was introduced to us. I learnt about the different types of stars and how their personalised to sell products. Taking the Example of the One Direction band and their form of clothing style and their merchandise. This is all based upon who they want their target audience to be and its also a way of selling their selves as a brand.

We also done our Thrift Shop music video parody story board with our groups. This was a fun and exiting task due to the fact that we could mess around with costumes and camera techniques to make out music video a success. We had the chance to all use the camera and perform in the music video.
