Evaluation Part 1

The first thing I received from the brief was to find a copyright free song from an unsigned artist which i should have permission to promote. As my first task I was eager to start and by the end of the week I already had my Artists. After spending large amounts of time on www.unsigned.com, www.mp3unsigned.com and www.youtube.com. I found the perfect artist on unsigned.com who was perfect for this project.

Her name is Amanda Kaletsky who's origin is from American, Brooklyn New York. I thought she was a good artist to pick this was because she is a young lady who has a passion for the songs she writes as well as overall music. The first song I herd from her was called 'wait'  as this song was too slow for my likings i research continued researching her on Unisigned.com which lead me to finding her song called 'everything lies' which was more uplifting and sounded more like a pop artist.

The song 'Everthing Lies' called my attention as it was about young love which i thought was a good this as I could play the artist because I would be part of the group that would want the best outcome product for the group. At the time i thought that a lot of young people around the age of 14 to 28 could relate to the song or simply find it interesting and fun to listen to. The fact that the song 'Everthing Lies' was used in the MTV show The Hills made me want to do this song more because this makes her seem famous and more people would be interested in the song. Despite the fact that the song is about heart break and lies the beat of the song makes it sound like a lively song.

The more I kept hearing  the song and the lyrics I kept getting ideas of how the music video would turn out and motivated me more to pick her as my unsigned artist. I had locations such as central London, the characters that would be playing the artists, the costumes we would wear and some of the potential camera angles. For example when I analysed the lyrics of the song 'everything lies' as the opening of the song it says "don't hide behind that pretty face of yours" for this i already had the idea of myself who would be playing Amanda taking the hands of Emanuel face, the love of Amanda in the music video. This would have been done by a hand held camera shot type to portray what I as Amanda Kaletsky is looking at to the audience so they feel interacted and so they can relate to the music video.
I therefore took the next step and asked her for permission to use her song for my media project. I managed to find her on the social media, Facebook and send her a message asking if it was ok if I used her song. Just in case she wouldn't reply to this i sent her another message to her email hoping to get a reply soon from one of them.  I successfully got a reply from her saying  it was ok as long as my Media teacher sent her an email of confirmation that it was for a reasonable and sensible use. Find an enclosed copy of this email below.

The last step of this was to pitch my chosen unsigned artist and song to the rest of my class. In this presentation I had to make sure I portrayed my interest and knowledge for the reasons of why i picked the artist and the song and why. You can find My music video pitch on my blog.

Production Log 15

This week we finished the music video and edited all the footage together, adding any finishing touches that needed to be perfected. We also finished our ancillary products. I have started my evaluations which is the last thing left to do in order to finish my media coursework. This year helped me develop new skills on new softwares such as Photoshop.

Production Log 14

This week I have been working on finalising our digi pack and magazine cover. The magazine cover only need the pack-shot of the digi pack to be complete so that had to be done as soon as possible in order for it to be complete. And so that was done.

I also managed to finish the front and back cover of the digi-pack. This couldn't have been done with with the help of Jess and Sam who helped pick the image and song tracks of the album and where the barcode goes.

Production Log 13

This week we re-filmed the footage that needed to be improved for our music video. After watching what we already had we felt that more angles of the main artist were needed as it kept cutting from Josh and I back to Chris being is the same position.

It was an idea of mine from the start, to film in the drama studio as there was different type of lighting and a stage that we could use. It wasn't until we needed a new place to film we thought of actually using the drama room to record in. We also thought of recording in the music room however, due to lack of time and management this couldn't happen. The key aim of re-filming was to get a verity of angles of Chris singing in different locations and positions and this was done successful.

In the moment I thought that we should take advantage of the time we had in the music room to take pictures for the digipack as it still needed a lot of work. I took the lead in directing what angles, poses and lighting we should use in the photos that we were shooting. I felt Samantha helped a lot in terms of helping me agree on the positions we used as she has also done a lot of camera work before.

Production Log 12

Putting it all together. Editing was the main focus during this week, having recorded most footage we could start editing. Knowing we had to face challenges at some point we came across cutting to the beat. Samantha wanted to cut to a different beat than to me however, I realised that my beat was only for the beginning of the song and that it dint continue throughout the whole song.  I particularity found working with Chris the most challenging as his lip syncing was terrible and we realised this while editing due to this we had to re film as no matter what me and Sam done while editing, the footage and his singing wasn't in sync.
